A mature and acclaimed pianist, ARNALDO COHEN made his
Toronto debut on Music Toronto’s Piano series in November 2007.
Robert Everett-Green in the Globe and Mail noted: Critics have been “discovering” Cohen where no one, it seems, had bothered to look: at a concert grand, playing very demanding music with insight, passion and virtuosity….What he lacked…was any personal involvement in the art of show business. He did what he felt the music demanded, and no more. The Chicago Tribune called him the greatest pianist you’ve never heard of. Gramophone magazine recognized the touch of a master. After winning first prize in the 1972 Busoni International Piano Competition, Mr. Cohen launched his international career with a triumphant solo recital at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. Mr. Cohen’s unconventional background – engineering graduate, professional violinist, teacher of physics and mathematics, cocktail pianist, avid soccer fan – contributes to the aura of discovery that greets his performances. Brazilian-born Arnaldo Cohen, after 23 years living in London, now holds a professorship at Indiana U and lives with his American wife Ann in Bloomington.
